McBitterson’s makes cute, sometimes cranky, letterpress greeting cards. Our cards are printed on vintage presses — a Vandercook SP-15 and a Heidelberg Windmill, both for the 1960s. Both of these presses are works of art in themselves.
McBitterson’s was started in 2009 by Jenny Piette because she had too much time on her hands. She has been crafting, drawing and making weird and funny things, everything from cross-stitch to comics to making furniture out of 2x4s. Somewhere along the way she fell in love with writing and designing pithy little cards and the process of letterpress printing.
Most of our cards are hand made at our studio in the former Hammond Organ factory building in Chicago. We hand feed each card to print and again to score, then fold and stuff each card for packaging. All items are made individually with eco-friendly materials whenever possible. Our cards are printed on heavy weight 100% cotton paper made from lint reclaimed in other industrial processes. Each greeting card includes a 30% post-consumer recycled envelope and is packaged in a plant-based, biodegradable sleeve.
